FIRST VISIT

We offer an excellent early treatment program for monitoring growth and development of the jaws as well as guidance of eruption of the permanent teeth; our recommendation for a patient’s first visit is age 7.  Although treatment recommendation is rare at this young age, parents will appreciate the preventive value of these complementary orthodontic appointments.

During an orthodontic first visit, Dr. Bernice will do a thorough examination, possibly including an x-ray called a panorex, followed by a discussion of treatment recommendations.  As mentioned above, sometimes the best treatment is simply allowing growth, development and eruption to occur naturally.  One of the greatest values of these early appointments is to prevent impaction of permanent teeth, saving the patient (and parent) difficult and costly treatment in the future.

While we can often answer general treatment questions at this initial examination, we recognize that each patient is an individual and we will address specific areas of concern after careful analysis of the diagnostic records.  Our orthodontists feel it is important to analyze each patient’s specific needs, because in-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.

If treatment is recommended, our orthodontic treatment coordinator will discuss treatment options, time frames and financial arrangements.  We feel strongly that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will entail and an estimate of treatment time.  Our treatment coordinators are very well trained and can answer many of your questions regarding your recommended orthodontic treatment.
